Are Antibiograms Ready for Prime Time in the Nursing Home? - Journal of the American Medical Directors Association

Are Antibiograms Ready for Prime Time in the Nursing Home? - Journal of the American Medical Directors Association: In 2017, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) initiated a requirement
that nursing homes have an antibiotic stewardship program.1 As part of this requirement,
nursing homes must track antibiotic use as well as monitor and communicate trends
in antibiotic resistance. One tool specifically mentioned in the regulatory guidance
that can aid in tracking antibiotic resistance is the antibiogram.2 As part of the
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)–funded Improving Outcomes of Urinary
Tract Infection Management in Long-Term Care (IOU) project (R18-HS023779), one-on-one
coaching calls were conducted with each participating facility.
